Tower Life Building sold to ownership group led by McCombs family

A group led by the McCombs family has purchased the Tower Life Building, which had been owned by the Zachry family for nearly 80 years.

‘Along the lines of Hotel Emma.’ Austin developer has big plans for San Antonio Express-News building

The former San Antonio Express-News building, 301 Avenue E, was recently purchased by Sutton Co. of Austin, which has plans to convert it into a mixed-use development.

Sutton Co. of Austin plans to convert the 1929 newspaper building into a boutique hotel with multifamily housing, retail and perhaps even a music venue.

A local investment group is renovating the Best Western on East Commerce Street, adding a speakeasy to its basement, in a show of confidence in San Antonio’s hospitality sector and St. Paul Square.

GrayStreet’s Broadway East urban community derailed. W Hotel on hold. The Light building rehab lags behind schedule. That’s just GrayStreet’s projects on Broadway. The Covid pandemic has stymied many of the local developer’s downtown projects.
