Mayor Ron Nirenberg and the City Council gave enthusiastic support on Wednesday to the city’s proposal to rewrite a five-year-old agreement with Zachry Hospitality regarding its plan to develop the northwest corner of Hemisfair, a long-delayed project.
After a delay of more than two years, the construction of Hemisfair’s Civic Park is finally imminent, it appears. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for sometime in January after the City Council approved last week a $27.9 million construction contract for Skanska USA Building.
The city is at odds with the Hemisfair over its plan to renovate a vacant building near the Tower of the Americas into a headquarters for its Park Police department.
The all-vegan Lucy’s Bodega has opened at St. Paul Square, 123 Heiman St. The couple also plans to open a Lucy’s Bodega on East Houston near Alamo Plaza.
However, there is little hope of Zachry Corp. breaking ground soon on the mixed-use development that will enclose the park.
