San Antonio City Council approves new agreement with Zachry for long-delayed Hemisfair project

Construction continues at Hemisfair's future Civic Park on the southeast corner of South Alamo and East Market streets on Thursday, April 7, 2022.

On Thursday, City Council approved a new agreement with Zachry Hospitality to redevelop the northwest corner of Hemisfair after the company failed to pay rent or meet its construction deadlines in a 2017 deal.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg and the City Council gave enthusiastic support on Wednesday to the city’s proposal to rewrite a five-year-old agreement with Zachry Hospitality regarding its plan to develop the northwest corner of Hemisfair, a long-delayed project.

Years behind schedule, the construction of Hemisfair’s Civic Park has been delayed in part by Zachry Hospitality’s inability to start construction of its multi-use development.

Hemisfair’s Civic Park construction imminent as planners race to meet 2025 Final Four deadline

The Hemisfair Civic Park design plans approved by the Historic and Design Review Commission on Oct. 29, 2021.

After a delay of more than two years, the construction of Hemisfair’s Civic Park is finally imminent, it appears. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for sometime in January after the City Council approved last week a $27.9 million construction contract for Skanska USA Building.

Hemisfair opposes city’s plan to rehab vacant building as Park Police HQ

Building 277 at Hemisfair will become the new San Antonio Bike Police headquarters.

The city is at odds with the Hemisfair over its plan to renovate a vacant building near the Tower of the Americas into a headquarters for its Park Police department.
