Thank you for supporting the Heron!

As a Heron reader, you already know that we prioritize truth over profits. Our contributors work tirelessly to produce public service journalism that you can trust because you deserve to have a go-to source for the news that matters most to you. This is essential work, especially these days, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of Heron donors like you.

Make your donation go even further this year through NewsMatch, a collaborative fundraising movement to support independent, public service journalism like ours.

Here’s how it works.

Now through Dec. 31, the Knight Foundation, the Heising-Simons Foundation and NewsMatch will match any one-time gift you make to the Heron (up to $1,000), and match any new monthly recurring donation x 12.

That means that, through NewsMatch, we can earn up to $30,000.

We are grateful for your existing support. If you can go above and beyond with an additional gift, you will help keep us going and get our campaign off to a strong start. If you believe in the work we’re doing, will you give today to double the impact of your donation?

WHO WE ARE

We are the San Antonio Heron. We launched in 2018 as a nonprofit newsroom focussed on writing about downtown development and the ripple effect it has on inner city neighborhoods.

WHAT WE DO

Rather than chase after breaking news stories, we strive to help explain how the world works, especially when it comes to housing.

While other news outlets cover housing and development, we take a uniquely explanatory approach to it. We dive deep into these topics with fresh research (both hard and empirical data) and by providing context no one else does in this city.

…

Many employers will match their employees’ charitable donations. Please check with your employer’s personnel department to find out how you can potentially double, or even triple, the impact of your gift.

The San Antonio Heron is a nonprofit, independent news organization. Contributions or gifts to the Heron are tax deductible; you will receive a receipt for your donation with proof of our tax-exempt status. Our EIN number is: 83-1163274.
