A few thousand spectators lined Houston Street on Saturday for the 18th Annual Veterans Day Parade. Organized by the U.S. Military Veterans Parade Association, the parade included active duty and retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Many in the crowd said “Thank you for your service” as the various participants passed them. But the crowd was also lined with veterans who also received thank yous, such as Jesse Torres, 75, who served in the Vietnam War in 1966-1967 with the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry Division. The Armendariz family watched the parade with an empty seat in honor of the family patriarch, Wenceslo, a Vietnam War veteran who died on Memorial Day of this year. View our slideshow for more on these veterans and others.
