You’re not an official nonprofit news organization until you have a pledge drive. Or, is it a membership drive? We have no idea.
Whatever you want to call it, we’re throwing a launch party for our fall campaign this Saturday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at The Dakota East Side ice House, 433 S. Hackberry St. Visit the Facebook event page.
The Dakota, a true East Side neighborhood establishment, is gracious enough to host “Heron Happy Hour,” where Heron faithful will enjoy $1 off all food and drinks. Light snacks will also be provided.
We’ll have additional perks for those who contribute toward our fall goal of $2,500. You can donate one-time, or become a monthly member. We’ll have swag—shirts and stickers.
Quick update on the site:
Rest assured, every day we are out there in the community—or at Geekdom where we office—reporting, researching, analyzing data, etc., to bring you content you can’t find anywhere else.
We’re still shifting away from being a daily news site toward one that’s more analysis and narrative driven. It’s a work in progress, which is why your contribution is so important.
We can do much more with more support from our readers. We can hire more freelancers for more reporting and research, and more photographers to capture life in the changing downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.
If you can’t give financially, we understand. Please come out anyway and say “hi.” You can always support us by helping spread the word about the Heron—by word of mouth, by sharing a Facebook post, etc. Or, sign up for our free newsletter.
