For years, Jazz’SAlive has had the same formula: jazz acts on two stages, food booths along the edges of Travis Park, and arts and crafts. This year, the 35th annual music festival gets a bit of a makeover in honor of San Antonio’s 300th anniversary.
New to this year’s Jazz’SAlive is a cocktail tent sponsored by Tito’s Vodka. Bakery Lorraine will host a “Pop Tart Brunch,” 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, featuring pastries, ice coffee, and mimosas. Garden-Ville will set up a pumpkin patch. And Southtown Yoga Loft will do its thing 10-11:15 a.m. Saturday.
Scattered in the park will be three painted pianos, provided by Alamo Music Center, which will be available for anyone to hold their own impromptu concert.
Among the big-name acts are Dallas native Jazzmeia Horn, a 2018 Grammy nominee for “Jazz Vocal Album of the Year,” and Grammy-winner Lee Ritenour, who both perform Saturday. Legends Jim Cullum Happy Jazz Band and up-and-coming Tony Romero’s The Spiders Jazz Quintet are among the local acts.
The two-day event will go on rain or shine, says Mary Jane Verette, president and CEO of the San Antonio Parks Foundation, the event’s organizer.
“If it rains, we’re just going to have to do the best we can,” Verette said.
Jazz’SAlive begins at 5 p.m. today, and runs through Saturday night at Travis Park. Visit the website for a complete schedule.
