The San Antonio Heron has been selected to receive $5,000 in matching funds from NewsMatch for our dedication to serving communities of color in San Antonio. This bonus was made possible with support from Knight Foundation, Meta Journalism Project, and the Walton Family Foundation.
Our NewsMatch goal is now $18,000, of which we’ve raised $6,117—or a third. We have from now through Dec. 31 to raise $11,883.
As a reminder, this additional funding doesn’t kick in without contributions from readers like you.
This is the funding we need to become self-financed next year. Becoming self-financed will all but ensure the Heron will be around for years to come. From day one, it’s been our mission to report on downtown San Antonio development and the ripple effect it has on inner city neighborhoods. Our journalism is funded primarily by you, our readers. We like it that way. Your support protects our independence as a news organization.
We don’t charge a subscription fee, we have no paywall, because we consider our journalism to be a public service, and as such should be free for all to access.
If you are a Heron donor, we warmly thank you.
Will you join them and double your support for the Heron’s commitment to community journalism with a gift today?
Briefly, here’s how it works: NewsMatch will double any single donation (up to $1,000) or any new monthly donation x 12 now through Dec. 31.
Those who donate $25 will receive a Heron shirt in the mail, and also be automatically entered into our Holiday Raffle. This year’s top prize is a $500 H-E-B gift card, but there are other prizes we’ll announced later this week. Read more or donate via NewsMatch.
Stay safe out there, and we thank you for your time.
